Diamond Carat Weight

The carat of a diamond is often confused with the diamond's size, when in actual fact the carat of a diamond is telling you how much the diamond weighs. A carat is a unit of weight used to describe a diamond, with 1 carat weighing 0.20 grams.

A point scale is often used to describe the carat weight of a diamond with each carat equaling 100 points; therefore a diamond weighing 0.25 carats may also be referred to as a ’25 pointer’ (or a quarter-carat). Generally, you would think that a diamond with more weight will significantly increase in price compared to a smaller diamond; however the quality of the other three Cs will greatly affect this.
